Best-selling children’s author Andrew Cope was at Mildenhall’s St Mary’s Academy on Thursday after being invited by Year 3 pupil Isaac Gilby, pictured.

Mr Cope, who has written the Spy Dog and Spy Pups series, attended assemblies and visited classes with his dog Lara, the inspiration behind the books.

Abigail Gilby said, “My son Isaac has been avidly reading the Spy Dog series, and wrote a letter asking Mr Cope to visit his school. He was so excited to find out he was coming.” Spy Dog won the Redhouse Children’s Book of the Year as well as scooping the prestigious Richard and Judy award for the seven plus category.
