A new all-weather sports pitch and woodland play area has been opened at a Newmarket school funded by a sports festival held in the town to mark the London Olympics.
The facilities opened at St Louis Catholic Academy in Fordham Road on Friday.
The Festival of Sport was supported by local businesses, including Newmarket Racecourses, Forest Heath District Council and the National Horse Racing Museum, and brought together local clubs and businesses to showcase the voluntary work that takes place in the Newmarket area.
The event raised £13,000 and created a lasting legacy, including closer links between the school and its community and an increased focus on sport and its benefits.
“We are extraordinarily grateful to the parents, children, businesses and people of Newmarket who supported this event, and made it an outstanding success,” said Jo Howard, chairman of the Festival of Sport committee.
She added: “The children at the school will benefit from this facility for many years to come and it is a testament to the community spirt of St Louis Catholic Academy.”
