Pupils, staff and parents at Newmarket’s Laureate primary school and nursery had plenty to celebrate at the end of the year thanks to their efforts for charity.

They chose the children and young people’s cancer support charity, CLIC Sargent, as their good cause for 2014 and managed to raise mnore than £2,000 through a host of fundraising events from a collection of over 5,500 copper coins, a summer fete to an obstacle course sponsor day, which alone raised £1,320.

“It’s wonderful that our pupils are so keen to embrace the opportunity to support others in the wider community,” said head teacher David Perkins, “we are incredibly proud of this total, and we know that it will make a huge difference to families who are facing a difficult time.”
