Marathon des Sables participant Sam Mitchell is counting down the hours until he joins one of the most challenging endeavours on the planet.
Sam has been combining his naval officer training at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth with preparation runs ahead of the event which begins on Sunday.
The 25-year-old from Mildenhall will face soaring temperatures as he runs across the Sahara carrying his provisions along the way.
He has already raised £1,300 through his charity page and is hoping a fund-raising evening on April 17 at Mildenhall Cricket Club will add to funds for St Nicholas Hospice Care, Walking with the Wounded and the Britannia Association.
He said: “I’m very excited about the challenge but as bit apprehensive as you don’t want to fail.”
Sam will burn a massive amount of calories during the run and the main challenges he faces will be heat and combatting blisters along the way.
