Staff at a hotel in Newmarket have been busy receiving specialist training in life saving techniques.

On Wednesday representatives from St John Ambulance visited the Bedford Lodge Hotel to show staff how to use a new £2,000 defibrillator which has been installed at the hotel.

The device, which emits an electrical charge to a heart-attack victim via a hand-held paddle to restart the heart, is one of only four located in the town.

“We are told by The Community Heartbeat Trust that a defibrillator can boost a heart-attack victim’s survival by 50 per cent,” said Noel Byrne, chief executive of the hotel.

“It’s of the utmost importance to us to ensure people who visit the hotel receive the best care should an unfortunate cardiac incident occur.”
