Police have intensified the hunt for the hit and run driver who seriously injured two local sportsmen in Newmarket’s Dullingham Road a week ago.

They are re-appealing for the public’s help to trace the vehicle that was involved, which they now believe to be a silver Ford Focus with a 2006 number plate.

PC Ash Bennett said: “We would like to appeal for witnesses to this tragic and heinous incident which has left a man with both legs amputated below the knee.

“Anyone who is aware of any damaged vehicles matching the description of the Ford Focus involved or any other information, no matter how insignificant, is asked to get in touch.”

The Ford Focus collided with a silver Vauxhall Astra belong to Joey Abbs of Newmarket that had pulled over to fix a flat tyre and a black BMW 320 belonging to Shaun Whiter of Burrough Green who driven to assist his friend. Shaun’s injuries were so serious his legs have been amputated below the knee.

Anyone with information should call PC Bennett or Sergeant Keith Evans at the Roads Policing Unit on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
