The horse from hit BBC show Poldark proved a popular attraction at The South Suffolk Show which pulled in record crowds.

Thousands of people flocked to the jam-packed agricultural show - now in its 128th year - at Ampton Racecourse on Sunday.

It boasted more than 170 trade stands and 700 horse class entries - some of which were qualifiers for national events. There were also classes for cattle, sheep and pig classes, a food hall, craft marquee, children’s entertainment and fairground rides.

Other highlights included an appearance by Poldark’s horse with The Atkinson Action Horses which show-cased a variety of tricks and stunts.

There was also a machinery demonstration to show the harvesting of maize, the Suffolk Gundog Club, the Sheep Show, vintage tractors, classic cars and birds of prey displays.

For the second year running there was a farrier competition.

Geoff Bailes, honorary secretary of the show, said: “There was a tremendous number of very happy people around the showground.

“We’re very grateful to our landlords the Turner family for allowing us to use Ampton Racecourse.”

The event started in 1888 as the Wickhambrook Colt and Foal Show and has been based at Ampton since the late 1980s.
