Exning will be commemorating the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War with an evening of words and music at St Martin’s Church next month.

The village’s war memorial bears the names of 80 villagers who lost their lives in the conflict and they will be remembered during the commemoration on August 3 at 7pm organised by the Exning branch of the Royal British Legion in conjunction with the church.

There will be readings from the works of the great war poets including Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen with music from Newmarket Town Band.
