A Newmarket playgroup has been rated good by Government inspectors.
The All Saints under fives group, which is based in purpose-built premises in the grounds of All Saints primary school currently caters for 26 children and has five members of staff who are managed by a voluntary committee.
According to inspector Kelly Eyre, those working with the children used effective teaching techniques that supported the youngsters in making food progress and used an effective assessment of children to plan activities which interested them.
“Practitioners work well with parents and obtain clear initial information about children’s needs so that they offer them pertinent support and reassurance,” said the inspector. “As a result children settle well and have secure, trusting relationships with practitioners.”
The report said the group catered for a number of children who spoke English as an additional language and staff helped them feel secure by using key words in the child’s home language and supported early communication by the use of simple sign language, building confidence and making the children eager to learn English.
