Rapid progress is being made to re-open a playground in Mildenhall which has been shut for more than five months on safety grounds.

A decision was made by Mildenhall Parish Council back in July to shut the town’s popular Recreation Way playground after sections of the wet pour safety surface had become unsafe.

After taking legal advice over the situation a settlement has now been reached to replace the surface and re-open the playground, which is anticipated to be in the spring.

“We have been doing everything we can to get the playground re-opened and now a settlement has been agreed literally we are now full steam ahead with it,” said Mandy Maguire, clerk to Mildenhall Parish Council.

“Given the constraints of the weather work will begin once the council is satisfied that any replacement will meet the requirements of both safety and durability, and a suitable contractor has been agreed.

“We are hoping to open it as soon as possible and in our eyes opening it in the summer would be late.”
