Obituary: Kathleen Chapman

Former public house landlady Kathleen Chapman died at her home in Elizabeth Avenue, Newmarket, on December 16. She was 74 and had been ill for 18 months.

Born in Whitworth, Rochdale, she was educated at the Tonacliffe County Council School before attending schools in Cheveley and Newmarket.

As well as a spell as landlady at The Boot in Dullingham, she had been a shop assistant at Watson’s building merchants and Slater’s Photography, Foggit’s chemist and Tesco.

She enjoyed knitting, gardening, caravanning and holidaying abroad.

Mrs Chapman is survived by her husband, Alan, and leaves two daughters, Tracey and Helen, and four grandchildren, Robert and Gemma Dixon, and Brandon and Jordan Charlesworth.

Her funeral was held at West Suffolk Crematorium, Risby, on December 27 and the Rev Graham Locking conducted the service.
