Nominations from Newmarket racing yards feature heavily in the shortlists for this year’s Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards.

Seven of the 15 finalists across the five categories hail from stables in the town, with each category having at least one Newmarket representative in it.

There will be at least one Newmarket based winner with all three finalists in the Rider/Groom Award being attached to yards in the town.

Making up the final three in that category are Simon Archer (Sir Mark Prescott), Steve Nicholson (Ed Dunlop) and Martyn Peake (Lady Cecil).

Elsewhere Joanne Fowles (Roger Varian) will be flying the flag for the town in the Leadership Award, while Clifford Marsden (Luca Cumani) will be doing likewise in the Dedication to Racing Award.

Charlotte Clayton (Rae Guest) will attempt to follow in the footsteps of Ben James from William Haggas’ yard and lift the David Nicholson Newcomer Award, while Dale Clements (Cheveley Park Stud) will battle it out in the Stud Staff Award.

Among those Dale will be up against is Ron Lott who works at the Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum owned Nunnery Stud, near Thetford.
