A Newmarket man who damaged six cars in one night causing hundreds of pounds of damage, has been fined more than £1,000.

Twenty-year-old Sean Sheppard, of Whitegates, admitted a total of nine charges when he appeared before magistrates at Ipswich last week.

The charges related to incidents which all took place on December 29 last year.

The court heard that cars parked on the street in Freshfields, Exning Road, and Tannersfield Way were victims of the damage spree during which Sheppard snapped off wing mirrors and smashed the rear window of one of the cars.

Sheppard also pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer, damaging the inside of a police car and using threatening words of behaviour.

In total he was fined £1,181.28, which included £100 for assaulting a police officer. He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation for the attempted criminal damage.
