The former chief executive of Anglia Community Leisure who oversaw the building of Newmarket’s new leisure centre has been appointed as chairman of Suffolk Sport.
Tony Bass, who has worked in leisure management within local government and the voluntary sector for over 30 years, will take up the role for the next 12 months, having been involved with the partnership since its inception back in the 1990s.
Prior to taking up a role with ACL, Mr Bass was the head of leisure services for Forest Heath District Council.
Recently he has set up his own leisure consultancy firm which focuses on supporting local public leisure provision and community projects
“I am looking forward to leading Suffolk Sport’s continued development as a major contributor to local sport and physical activity and working with our partners within sport, health and education to make Suffolk the country’s most active and healthy county,” said Mr Bass.
