Newmarket Fire Station has recently taken delivery of equipment that will help firefighters tackle blazes in areas where water supplies are low.

The new water carrier, costing £143,000 replaces one that had been in service for 25 years and is seen here at the Willie Snaith Road station with firefighters Richard Clarke, Matt Lee, Paul Grimes and Tom Bartlett. A spokesperson for Suffolk Fire and Rescue said: “The new vehicle carry out a really important role, ferrying water for firefighting to support fire crews who are operating in areas where water supplies are either scarce or need to be supplemented. In rural areas and where there are risks such as large forested areas, heath and farmland, this is a very important consideration for the fire and rescue service.”
