Organisers have announced a new date for the popular Newmarket Hilly Cycle Sportive which will be held later this year.
Now in its fifth year, the Newmarket Festival committee-organised event will take place on Sunday, June 25, starting at the Rowley Mile Racecourse, with money raised going to help support local Newmarket causes.
And following a Dragon’s Den-style initiative held earlier in the year at Newmarket Academy, students aiming to join an expedition to India in 2018 have been offered free entry in return for their help in setting up the event. They will be able to use the event as a platform for their individual fund-raising efforts. One of them, Alex Baldock, who successfully made the pitch to the dragons, will be match-funded up to £500.
The Hilly is is the brainchild of Noel Byrne, chief executive of the Bedford Lodge Hotel and long-standing member of the Newmarket Festival committee.
“I am delighted that we are able to once again put on this superb event and in doing so raise vital funds for our community. We are so grateful to all the businesses and individuals that are sponsoring and cycling on the day, helping us to reach our fund-raising goals,” he said.
Booking for this year’s event is now open online at www.newmarkethilly100.org.uk, with an early bird offer of only £25 available until April 9.
Riders will have the choice of three fully marshalled courses over 25, 50 and 100 miles as well as there being a course available for children within the confines of the racecourse grounds.
