Another milestone on the dualling scheme of the A11 between Fiveways roundabout and Thetford was reached at the weekend.
On Sunday the B1112 underpass between Eriswell and Icklingham was officially opened to motorists following the following the conclusion of the final piece of work on it on Saturday.
The new underpass replaces the previous staggered junction with the A11 which was difficult to use and had a poor accident record.
As part of the project there will however be no access onto or off the A11 from the B1112.
“Work on the A11 dualling and improvement scheme is progressing well and now reaching its final phase,” said Geoff Chatfield, project manager for the Highways Agency.
“Road users have already seen the immediate benefits of reduced congestion and smoother journeys thanks to the opening of the bypass at Elevden in April.
“Opening of the B1112 underpass is another key milestone bringing us another step closer to delivering smoother, faster journeys along the A11 in Suffolk.
Work on the dualling and improvement scheme is due to be completed by the winter.
