A Newmarket woman found herself the victim of a ‘revenge porn’ attack after her ex-boyfriend posted pictures of her on an online social networking site.

Magistrates at Bury St Edmunds heard that Luke Jeffrey’s girlfriend had sent him naked pictures of herself while they were in a relationship and he posted them on Facebook after they split up.

On Monday, the 29 year old pleaded guilty to disclosing private sexual photographs with intent to cause distress in Newmarket. Prosecuting, Tess Mann said that after Jeffrey’s three-month relationship with the woman ended, he sent her a screenshot of a naked photo he had published with her name above it. She then received a message from another woman she did not know showing two naked photos of her on Jeffrey’s Facebook profile, said Ms Mann.

Mitigating, Claire Lockwood said Jeffrey’s relationship with the woman became ‘quite serious very quickly’ with him changing jobs and moving to Newmarket to live with her, but the relationship had then ended.

She said the woman sent him the photos during their relationship, though she denied they were of her at the time, and he posted them on Facebook while he was ‘still quite upset’ about the relationship ending.

“Within a few minutes of putting them up, he received a message from the woman and took them down. He fully accepts that whether they were of her or not she would have been distressed.” Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report and Jeffrey, of Howgate Road, Cambridge, will be sentenced next month.
