Police in Newmarket are holding an event so that motorists can get security marking for catalytic converters on their vehicles.

The day is aimed at owners of vehicles with a high ground clearance, such as vans and 4x4s. These tend to be targeted by thieves due to the ease at which they can get underneath them.

The catalytic converters will be etched with the vehicle’s registration number and also marked with a heat-resistant silver spray which acts as both a deterrent to thieves, as well as identifying it to scrap dealers as one that has been marked if someone tries to sell it to them.

Vehicle owners will also be given stickers to place in their windows warning potential thieves that the converter has been security protected.

The marking, which is offered free of charge, will take place between 9am and 4pm on Thursday March 19 and will be held at ATS Euromaster Ltd, 4 Bury Road, Newmarket, CB8 7BP.
