A popular Newmarket band has realised a near 20-year ambition after being chosen to play an after racing concert on 1,000 Guineas day on Sunday.
The Mighty Macca whose members are Carl MacDonald, Paul MacDonald, Colin MacDonald, Ed Kerr and Colin Pringle, will be playing to their biggest ever audience, around 15,000 people, when they step out on stage at the Rowley at 6pm.
“We have always wanted to play at the racecourse and this will be the biggest gig of our career,” said Carl.
“It’s great that the racecourse is making use of local talent and one day we would love to play a Newmarket Nights gig.”
The concert will bring the curtain down on two days of top class racing as well as a host of other attractions. Discover Newmarket, the town’s official tour guide will be staging an exhibition with artefacts supplied by the Jockey Club Rooms and The National Horseracing Museum.
There will also be a carousel and ferris wheel soft play centre, fortune teller and face painting.
