Nearly 300 years of married life was celebrated at a special service at Burwell’s St Mary’s Church when seven couples renewed their marriage vows.
“We last held a marriage renewal service in Burwell in September 2012 and, due to popular demand, we are delighted that another seven couples came forward asking to be involved in a similar service,” said vicar The Rev Dr Eleanor Williams, who conducted the service.
Renewing their vows were David and Krystyna Boughey, married on February 16 1980; Christopher and Aline Clarke, married on September 17 1977; Albert and Norma Ellingford, married on February 27 1954; David and Pat Leah, married on February 6 1967; Richard and Cheryl Maddox, married on February 16 1974; Michael and Sharon Smith, married on February 24 1984, and Tony and Jackie Thacker, married on September 12 1970.
“In a society where daily pressures of life contribute to the breakdown of the family, it was refreshing and inspiring to be able to celebrate with these couples who wanted to renew their marriage vows, taken many years ago. We wish them all many more happy years together,” said Dr Williams.
