Youngsters say farewell to football-mad headteacher
Headteacher Olive Millington and pupils from Laureate Primary.
Pupils from a Newmarket school have bid a fond farewell to their football-mad headteacher at a special final assembly.
Olive Millington retired at the end of the autumn term after 11 years as headteacher of Laureate Community Primary School.
And youngsters at the Exning Road school made sure they gave her a good send-off by performing in a surprise football-themed assembly.
Mrs Millington said: “I had a great assembly. The children had been secretly rehearsing while I wasn’t about at school. They all had football scarves waving and they sang a song for me with their own lyrics.”
Parents and staff have showered her with plenty of leaving presents including bouquets of flowers, vouchers and a vase from the Parent Teacher Association.
She said: “I’ve had so many fantastic presents, it’s absolutely amazing.”
Mrs Millington said she had “mixed emotions” about leaving the school, but added that she was looking forward to some time off.
“It’s very emotional having the last day with the children and the staff, but I have lots of lovely memories and it’s what I want to do, so I’m looking forward to it.”
David Perkins will be taking over as her replacement.
