A woman walking with crutches in Newmarket was robbed of her purse yesterday.

The victim, aged in her 30s, had walked from High Street, through Kingston Passage, before reaching an area in Park Lane, near the Sunnyside flats, when the incident happened at about 9.30pm.

A man tried to snatch her handbag, but failed because she was wearing the strap across her body.

The suspect managed to unzip the bag, taking the victim’s purse and stealing £240 of cash before discarding it.

He was described as a white man, around 5ft 5ins tall, of medium build, with thin stubble on his face.

He was wearing a dark blue or black hooded top, grey jogging bottoms and padded, ski-style, dark blue gloves.

Anyone with information about this incident, or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, should contact PC Rob Diver at the Bury St Edmunds Priority Crime Team on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
