Firefighters battle Kentford house fire.

A woman has died following a house fire in Kentford.

The woman’s body was found in the house in Gazeley Road, off Bury Road, on Friday, while a man aged in his 60s was taken to West Suffolk Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. He has since been released.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene at about 9.20am, but the body was found later in the day after firefighters were able to enter the building.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said a post mortem was carried out on Saturday, but failed to establish the cause of death and further tests would be carried out.

He said the death remains unexplained, but is not being treated as suspicious.

About 55 firefighters from six fire crews in Suffolk and Cambridgeshire battled to extinguish the blaze, with firefighters and police remaining at the scene into Friday evening.

A cordon remained in place around the house on Saturday while police and fire investigators tried to establish the cause of the fire.

Police would like anyone in the area at the time to call 101.
