Volunteers start spring cleaning

Members of the Mildenhall Safer Neighbourhood Team were out litter picking on Saturday with members of the Red Lodge Conservation Group, on the village's heath.

Volunteers from the local community, American military personnel and from the national Probation Service helped with the exercise and afterwards contractors removed an estimated 30 tonnes of commercial fly tipped waste from Green Lane.

Funding for the project came from Natural England and Forest Heath District Council.

It is now planned to install fencing around the site to stop both motorbike users and fly tippers accessing the area.

Police Community Support Officer Tim Hartup said: "We have received complaints about the anti-social use of motorbikes on Red Lodge Heath for many years and have been issuing warnings and dealing with regular offenders.

"It is great to see local organisations and members of the community coming together to tackle this issue through the hard work of The Red Lodge Conservation Group."
