Village youth groups easy to spot

YOUNGSTERS in Red Lodge should be safer this summer thanks to Suffolk Police.

It has provided funding for 20 high-visibility jackets for members of the 1st Red Lodge Cubs and other youth groups in the village.

Police Community Support Officer Tim Hartup of the Mildenhall Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "Keeping children safe at all times is a priority of mine as I have personally seen the effect that accidents can have on the injured child, family and the local community.

"These luminous yellow jackets will make the children visible at all times, stand out to all road users and assist in keeping them safe."

He said the initiative followed on from a cyclist training course held last month and appealed to parents to join the campaign to prevent road accidents involving children.

"I want parents to make sure that they educate their children in basic skills such as crossing the road in the proper way.

"Children today are all too quick to run across the road and need to be reminded to concentrate as they can be easily distracted, especially with friends."
