A village is celebrating an early Christmas gift after receiving £25,000 to improve its children’s play area.

Stetchworth Parish Council has received the cash funding boost from the SITA Trust for its project.

Funding will allow a number of items of play equipment to be replaced, equipment to be refurbished and resurfacing to will take place.

Parish council chairman, Cllr Lily Whymer, said: “The existing play area has been in place for well over 20 years and although regularly maintained, it is looking tired and dated. The parish council is delighted to be able to update the area and the children in the village and users of the Ellesmere Centre will no doubt be equally pleased.”

Marek Gordon, chief executive and chairman of SITA Trust, said: “We are delighted to have been able to support this project.

“This important source of funding has been available since 1997 and has provided such worthy projects with more than £1.2 billion.”
