Village phones off for a month
Isleham residents will have been left without phone or internet connection for a month by the time a snapped cable and damaged pole are repaired.
Around 16 faults were reported to BT after an aerial cable was “snapped and pulled down” in Pound Lane on February 21.
But the telecommunications company said work to install the new pole and replace the cabling was not due to be carried out until March 20.
Eugene O’Sullivan, of Pound Lane, who has been unable to use his landline or internet since the damage, said he believed about 50 homes in Pound Lane and Cotes Drove had been affected.
“I think in this day and age it’s totally unacceptable,” he said. “We’ve got no telephone calls coming in or out and, should anything happen, we’re just dependant on mobile phones.”
A Cambridgeshire Police spokeswoman said BT had not reported the damage to police.
A BT spokesman said: “We have planned the work needed to replace the pole and install new cabling.
“Because of the location we need to install traffic management and have permission to do that and carry out this work on March 20.
“We have 16 reports of faults from people affected and we would of course like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during this period.”
About 250 homes in Isleham suffered a similar loss of phone and internet connection in November, 2011, when 1,000 metres of copper cables were stolen in Beck Road.
