Update: Man found dead in Newmarket woods was ‘foreign national’

A man found dead in Newmarket woods was a ‘foreign national’, according to police.

The man, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, was found in woods off Bury Road at about 6.15pm yesterday (Thursday).

Police said his body was found in an area that “he used to often frequent”.

Four men, who discovered his body, had been out searching for him after he had been missing for four days.

He had not previously been reported as missing to police.

The area was cordoned off while an initial investigation got underway, but this has since been lifted.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said: “Initial enquiries have established that the man is a foreign national and his next of kin living abroad. Police are in the process of locating his family

“Formal identification has taken place, however details of the man will not be released until his next of kin have been notified.

“A standard post mortem examination is due to take place on Tuesday 29 January to ascertain the cause of death.

“At this stage, as is standard procedure, the death is being treated as unexplained.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk Police on 101.
