UPDATE: Fatal road crash near Mildenhall

A section of the A11 at Mildenhall has been closed while emergency services deal with a fatal road traffic collision.

Police, fire and ambulance were called to the two-vehicle road traffic collision at approximately 2.10pm today (Wednesday).

The collision was between a black Mercedes car and a white DAF truck. The driver of the car was released from the vehicle by the fire service and seen to by paramedics but he sadly died at the scene.

The driver of the lorry has been taken to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds with suspected spinal injuries.

The A11 has been closed in both directions between the Fiveways roundabout at Barton Mills and the B1112 whilst police carry out an accident investigation and recovery of the vehicles takes place.

It is likely that the road will be closed for a number of hours. Diversions are in place.
