Under-threat nursery in appeal for help
A RED Lodge nursery under threat of closure is appealing to anyone who can help to find it a new home.
Red Lodge Pre-School, based at St Christopher's Church in Boundary Road will have to move because the church is being knocked down and re-built.
The school is currently under a contract with Ofsted, the government's school inspectors but unless it is able to find another site it will be forced to close.
If that happened around 40 children would be left without a school to go to.
"This pre-school is vital to the community," said pre-school owner and manager Helen Palmer.
"We have only been open a year in April and we are already full. I started the pre-school because I was doing a hundred-mile round-trip every week to drop my daughter off.
"The parish council don't seem to want to help and we have a 1.5 million Millennium Centre that has turned us down.
"We don't know when we are going to close, but it is certainly impending."
She said funds were available to re-fit a building to accommodate the school if a site was found.
West Suffolk MP Richard Spring visited the pre-school on Friday to talk about plans for its relocation.
Mr Spring met Mrs Palmer, who explained that the school already had a waiting list and if it closed, its youngster will be without.
"There is a great need for pre-schools in an expanding area like Red Lodge," said Mr Spring.
"The Red Lodge Pre-school has been established successfully in the village and is going from strength to strength.
"I am anxious to assist in the efforts to find suitable new premises for the school to ensure that children can continue to benefit from this amenity.
"It really is important that the pre-school continues to thrive."
Anyone who might be able to help by providing accommodation should contact Mrs Palmer on 07812 458749.
