A Newmarket primary school has taken delivery of a special banner in honour of an award-winning pupil.
Tyler Williams, who is 10 , was named one of Suffolk’s most inspirational education champions when she picked up Young Person of the Year award (up to Year 6) at the county’s Raising the Bar education awards in March.
Her citation read: “Despite having overcome some struggles in her life, Tyler is an excellent role model for her peers.
“Previously having been a school councillor, Tyler always participates in clubs and extra curricular activities and is already achieving above age-related expectations across the curriculum.”
Yesterday Cllr Lisa Chambers, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for education, skills and young people, presented Tyler and head teacher Sharon FitzGerald with a banner to hang outside the front of Houldsworth Valley primary school in Rowley Drive. Cllr Chambers said all the competition finalists had demonstrated “the wealth of excellent work and best practice that is taking place in Suffolk right now” and the awards had been a great opportunity to showcase and share that excellence.
