Tributes to crash victim Heather

Tributes have been paid to a woman from Newmarket who died in a multi-vehicle crash on the A14.

Heather Panter, of All Saints Road, died instantly when the black Ford Focus she was a passenger in was involved in a collision with three lorries just off the A1303 slip-road at Nine Mile Hill at about 7.10am on Thursday.

The Journal understands the 31-year-old office worker’s husband, 26-year-old nanny Oliver Panter, was driving the car at the time of the accident. The couple had been married just 18 months.

The driver was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Mrs Panter told friends on her Facebook page she was looking forward to moving into a new home in Mildenhall just days before her death.

Police have launched an investigation into the crash, which shut the westbound carriageway of the A14 for around nine hours while investigations were carried out. One lane eastbound was also closed while damage caused to the central reservation by one of the lorries was repaired.

Mrs Panter had worked in the customer services department at Booking.com in Cambridge.

A spokesman for the hotel reservations firm said: “We are very sad about the sudden loss of our valued and appreciated colleague.

“We have passed on our condolences to her family and will stay in close contact with them to help out in any way we can.”

The three lorries involved in the collision were a white DAF being driven by a 24-year-old man from Poland, a white MAN truck driven by a 38-year-old man from Essex and a white Volvo being driven by a 38-year-old man from Hertfordshire.

None of the lorry drivers were injured.

Sgt Gordon Murray, of Cambridgeshire Police, appealed for anyone who saw the collision or any of the vehicles prior to the accident to contact them.

“We’re particularly keen on hearing from anyone who saw any vehicle stopped or broken down on the slip-road to the junction with the A1303,” he said.

Anyone with any information about the collision should call the roads policing unit on 101.
