A group of fundraisers raised thousands for charity in memory of lost loved ones by taking part in a gruelling 24 hour triathlon.

People ran, rowed and cycled 1,319km – like travelling from London to Austria – at Newmarket Leisure Centre from midday Saturday to midday Sunday in aid of the British Heart Foundation and CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).

The event was organised by Lisa Snare and Mark Cowling, who both lost people close to them last year. Mark’s father died from a heart attack and Lisa’s best friend Claire Squires collapsed while running in the London Marathon.

The pair have raised almost £3,000 so far. To donate, visit http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com and search ‘Mark Cowling’. For details of those taking part visit www.newmarketjournal.co.uk.
