Trapped horse is rescued
A Suffolk Punch horse was rescued by firefighters after becoming stuck in a water-filled ditch on Saturday.
Firefighters were alerted by a member of the public that a horse had become trapped in one metre of water in a ditch near The Gravel in West Row.
Fire crews from Newmarket and Mildenhall and two crews from Bury St Edmunds arrived at about 11.17am with a water rescue vehicle to help remove the stricken horse.
A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews reported finding access to this incident difficult and an area en route to the incident had to be covered on foot as our fire appliances were unable to reach the location.”
Crews worked together with the water rescue team to free the horse shortly after midday.
A vet from Newmarket Equine Hospital attended the incident, but the horse was not believed to be injured.
