Town faces weeks of roadworks disruption

RESIDENTS and businesses are gearing up for a month of upheaval as contractors move in to resurface roads across Newmarket.

The disruption is likely to be greatest in Exning Road which will be completely closed for part of the works programme.

This is due to last for 17 days starting on Wednesday, February 8, subject to weather conditions.

The work is to resurface the road in line with Suffolk County Council’s highways maintenance plan and will affect Exning Road from the junction with St Philips Road to the junction with Studlands Park Avenue.

Initial work will be carried out between February 8, and February 10, using traffic lights with the complete road closure starting on Monday, February 13.

The work will start from the Studlands Park end of the closure so it can be completed outside Laureate Primary School during the school’s half term holiday. The second phase will be from Depot Road to St Philips Road.

Also being re-surfaced are All Saints Road, which will be closed from its junction with Park Lane to Vicarage Road and Warrington Street, which will be closed from Park Lane to The Avenue. These works will also mean some the short- term temporary closure of Palace Street and Park Lane. Diversions will be in place for all road closures.

Work in All Saints Road is set to start on February 6 and will take 10 days, while the Warrington Street re-surfacing will begin on Thursday and last for 13 days.

County council engineer Mark Watkins said: “We apologise in advance for the inconvenience.”
