Newmarket’s six car parks have received a national safety award.

The recognition is given to car parks which are judged by the police to be well

maintained, clean, properly lit, and places where motorists feel safe.

Cllr Stephen Edwards, cabinet member of Forest Heath District Council, which manages the car parks, pictured right, received the award at The Guineas car park, which has recently undergone a £200,000 improvement programme. “The car park is now somewhere people want to use when they are shopping or coming into town for leisure, so that’s also good news for the businesses which rely on their custom,” he said.
