Town retailers aiming for world status
Newmarket could be in line for WorldHost Destination status, if training taster sessions get the thumbs up from business owners.
The programme is aimed at creating customer service excellence in retail and Forest Heath District Council is working with Suffolk County Council, Newmarket Town Council and the Newmarket Retailers’ Association to offer subsidised WorldHost customer service training to all businesses in the town.
Successful delegates will obtain a full NVQ Level 2 qualification and each business taking part will gain Business Level WorldHost status.
Forest Heath’s economic development team is offering owners of all businesses in retail and hospitality the opportunity to take part in drop-in sessions which will provide a taster of what the training will be like. They will be held on Tuesday at Newmarket’s sports pavilion on The Severals, at 2pm, 4pm and 6pm.
Councillor David Bowman, Forest Heath District Council’s cabinet member for economic development and tourism, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to give Newmarket an even higher national profile. Potentially this could contribute hundreds of new qualifications to the skill level of the town and district, as well as WorldHost accreditation for individual businesses.
