Three charged after police raid factories
TWO men from Ely have appeared in court following the seizure of cannabis plants worth an estimated £160,000.
Forty-year-old Nho-Van-Tran, of Waterside, Ely, and a 16-year-old youth, of no fixed address, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Cambridge Magistrates' Court on Friday.
The pair were arrested and charged with the production of a controlled Class B drug following one of Cambridgeshire's biggest drug raids.
At around 10am on Thursday, Cambridgeshire Police raided the Waterside address where they seized nearly 500 plants, some of which were more than 3ft tall, along with four black bin bags full of cannabis ready to be sold on.
Police also raided a second home in Littleport where they arrested and charged Thanh Mui Le after finding a further 500 plants growing in the house, again valued at 160,000.
The 33 year old will appear before Cambridge Magistrates today on charges of the production of a controlled Class B drug.
Van Tran will have his case heard at Cambridge Crown Court at a later date.
The raid in Ely comes just weeks after Suffolk police raided a home on Lakenheath High Street where officers found more than 250 plants of the Class B drug growing in the property.
Anyone who suspects that a house is being used for drug production should call police on 0845 4564564 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
