Three Blockbuster stores avoid immediate closure

Three of the area’s Blockbuster’s stores have avoided closure for the time being, despite the company going into administration.
On Friday, business advisory firm Deloitte announced that 129 branches of the entertainment rental group would be shutting up shop for good after the company fell into administration on Wednesday.
However, officials from Deloitte confirmed that stores in Newmarket, Mildenhall and Ely were not on the list of casualties set to shut up shop over the coming weeks.
“Newmarket, Mildenhall and Ely are not on the list of advanced closures,” said a spokeswoman, speaking on behalf of Deloitte.
“In making their decision the administrators looked at when the stores lease is up for renewal together with the sales each store is generating, and if it is still considered profitable or not.”
Although avoiding closure for now, the spokeswoman was unable to confirm the long-term future for each branch.
“Decisions have been based on all the information we have and we will continue to assess and review each individual store,” she said.
