A Mildenhall man with 44 convictions for 151 offences has escaped a jail term despite being caught with stolen goods.
Michael McCulloch, 39, was tracked down thanks to cctv cameras, along with and Andrew Cuthill, 38, who had three previous convictions. Both were caught with property stolen from a house in Mildenhall.
On Thursday the pair, both of Mill Street, Mildenhall were sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court. Cuthill, was given 13 months’ imprisonment suspended for two years while McCulloch, got 12 months suspended for two years.
Prosecuting, Juliette Donovan said on August 3 last year, Cuthill and McCulloch were seen on security cameras in Mildenhall town centre close to the scene of a house burglary. A witness later told police that they had seen two men walking across the church yard carrying a bag from which electrical wires were hanging.
Police went to the flat in Mill Street where Cuthill and McCulloch lived and arrested both of them. Miss Donovan said a search of the property revealed stolen items including a camera, tools, a TV set, games consoles and luggage worth in total about £1,000.
When Cuthill was searched he was also found to be in possession of a small quantity of heroin and cannabis. Cuthill and McCulloch both pleaded guilty to handling stolen property and theft. Recorder Alastair Wilson told the defendants that they would both be subject to a drug testing and rehabilitation order.
