Tesco plans on show in Lakenheath
PLANS for a new Tesco store proposed for Lakenheath are set to go on display in the village later this month.
The drawings for the new store were supposed to go on show tomorrow and Saturday at Lakenheath Village Hall, but a slight delay in finalising the details for the exhibition has led to the supermarket giant postponing the two-day event until later this month.
Plans will now go display at the neighbouring Royal British Legion on Friday, March 19, from 2pm to 6.30pm and on Saturday, March 25, from 10am to 4pm.
Nick Gellaty, spokesman for Tesco, said: "We've already had a good response from the community after we announced our proposals and have been taking the time to meet with local residents and groups.
This exhibition is a great opportunity for us to showcase our plans and to hear what people think."
Under the proposals the company plans to create a new store on the High Street site currently occupied by Matthews Florist and Garden Centre, which would be slightly larger than the company's Metro store in neighbouring Brandon.
The new store would create about 150 full and part time jobs, including a community champion who will liaise with groups in the community about fundraising projects and other local activities.
A free car park close to the High Street site has also been drawn up under the plans which would be open to both Tesco customers and other visitors to the town.
"By opening a store that will offer good value food shopping and a free car park close to the High Street, we hope to encourage people to shop closer to home and visit other businesses in the village instead of travelling to stores further afield."
