Team need nine out of ten - Fallon

Soham Town Rangers boss Steve Fallon says his side need to win at least nine of their last ten games to make the play-offs.

The Ryman League Division One North side were frustrated by visitors Romford on Tuesday night, drawing 1-1, and Fallon said his side need to go on a run.

“We have had to come from behind again even though we are starting games well,” he said.

“Second half we had 90 per cent of the ball, missed a few chances but we knew we were good enough to beat them.

“We still haven’t given up on this - Thamesmead won ten on the trot and there’s no reason we can’t do the same.”

Luke Stanley got Soham’s goal on Tuesday, his second in two games following the last goal in Saturday’s 4-2 win against Thamesmead Town.

James McCabe and two from Robbie Mason rounded off Soham’s scoring, who had to come back from 2-0 down after a sloppy start.

They now sit six points off the play-off places and Saturday’s trip to Tilbury - who sit two places behind Soham in eighth - will be a stern test, according to Fallon.

“They are in a similar situation to us and will be looking at catching one or two teams.

“It’ll be a tough game. They got a late draw against us at our place and they are a decent side,” he said.

In the Thurlow Nunn Premier League, Mildenhall Town lived up to their high-flying status on Tuesday night by going to Ely City and winning 2-1.

Allicion Blake and Andrew Wood scored for the visitors.

It was a change in fortunes for the fourth-placed side after they were beaten 3-1 at Dereham Town on Saturday, with David Werthmann getting their goal.

On Saturday they head to high-flying Walsham-le-Willows, with a win meaning they will leapfrog their hosts (3pm).

Tuesday night’s result was the second defeat in a row for Ely City, who lost 2-0 away at Felixstowe & Walton United last Saturday.

The 14th-placed side will be hoping to ease any lingering relegation fears with a win against Norwich United at home on Saturday (3pm).

The visitors are just one place above the Cambridgeshire side, but have a five-point advantage.

First Division outfit Newmarket Town will be hoping to continue their promotion charge on Saturday at home against 14th-placed Downham Town (3pm).

The Jockeys will be confident having thrashed Great Yarmouth Town 5-1 on Tuesday night at home.

Tony Brown, Owen Paynter and Aaron Turner got the home side’s goals, with an own goal finishing the scoring.

That result followed a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday.
