A Burwell woman was eagerly awaiting a visit from the postman on Friday, when she celebrated her 100th birthday with a card from the Queen.

Sylvia Buxton marked the milestone event with two parties at her home in Ness Court – one for staff, carers and friends on Friday and a family gathering the following day.

Pauline Miller, Sylvia’s daughter, said: “She enjoyed her birthday tremendously.

“When visitors arrive, there is always a warm welcome with her big smile and sense of humour and a readiness for a good chat on all sorts of topics.”

Sylvia has eight children and several great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was born in Rougham before moving to Thelnetham where she met her late husband, Jack.

The couple moved to Walsham-le-Willows from 1942 to 1950 before moving to Wetherden.
