Students' pupil-power clears footpath
SOHAM schoolchildren who used a video to highlight their concerns about an overgrown footpath are celebrating after the route was cleared.
The youngsters put together the film, which was shown at a community neighbourhood panel, drawing attention to problems with the footpath which is much-used by parents and their children.
The path had become overgrown and muddy but thanks to the youngsters' efforts Cambridgeshire County Council has now cut back overhanging vegetation and re-surfaced the path using recycled road Tarmac.
County Council Cabinet Member for Economy and the Environment, Councillor Tony Orgee, said: "The young people did a first class job using the video to raise their concerns about the condition of the footpath and I am very pleased that our Countryside Services team has been able to respond, clear the path and improve the surface."
Cambridgeshire County Council is responsible for 3,200 km of public rights of way in the county and for making it easy for the public to access
