A vigilant member of staff at Newmarket Leisure Centre has helped prevent the theft of more than £400 worth of mobile phones.
Police were alerted to the incident, which took place at around 3.50pm Wednesday, by a member of staff at the Exning Road centre who had received reports that five mobile phones had been taken from a set of changing rooms .
Officers arrested two girls aged 14 and 12 years old from the town in relation to the incident at around 4.30pm.
The 14 year old was issued with two youth cautions, one for the theft of the phones, and one for the theft of stationary from the town’s branch of WH Smith on September 3.
The 12 year old was not issued with a youth caution for the phone theft, but was issued with one for stealing stationary on September 3 from WH Smith.
