Green-fingered youngsters at a village pre-school are looking forward to working on their allotment with new tools thanks to a donation from a Newmarket building Society.

The Isleham Under 5s Association received £100 on behalf of children at Isleham Pre-school, after a society member suggested the idea to staff at the Yorkshire Building Society’s Newmarket branch.

The donation helped buy a range of child-friendly gardening equipment including spades, hoes, trowels and hand forks as well as new seating in the allotment’s shed.

Newmarket branch manager Rose Knightley, said: “ We’re delighted to have contributed to the purchase of new gardening equipment for the children at Isleham Pre-School.”

Pre-school manager Jenny Larnder added: “The children love being outside, and working on the allotments provides a new learning experience and environment for them to grow and develop.”
