‘Skimmer’ jailed

An ATM ‘skimmer’ is behind bars after a potential victim spotted him loitering near the cash machine she was using and called police.

Alin Al-Badi, 31, was jailed for three months by magistrates sitting in Cambridge on Thursday after pleading guilty to possessing an article for use in fraud.

The woman was trying to withdraw money from the machine outside Barclays bank in Parsonage Lane, Burwell, at about 6.30am on Wednesday when her card was swallowed.

The woman then spotted a man acting suspiciously and gave his description over the phone to a police operator.

Al-badi, of no fixed address, was arrested nearby.

Pc John Bunyan, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: “The member of the public showed great public spirit to call police with her concerns and give a description of Al-Badi who was nearby. We would urge people to remain vigilant when using cashpoints.”
