Schoolchildren in Newmarket embraced the season of giving by taking park in a Christmas shoebox collection for underprivileged children around the world.

St Louis Primary School, in Fordham Road, made 125 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, a collection which the school takes part in every year.

Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest children’s Christmas project, run by the Christian charity Samaritan’s Purse.

The project has been sending gift-filled shoeboxes around the world since 1990, touching the lives of over 100 million underprivileged children.

Last Christmas, a total of 977, 880 children from 15 countries around the world received a special shoebox gift thanks to the supporters and volunteers across the UK.
