Serial burglar put behind bars
A BURGLAR responsible for dozens of crimes across two counties has been jailed for more than two years.
Matthew Eke was caught after police matched his shoes to prints left at the scene of a break-in in Newmarket's Rowley Drive.
The 32 year old gave police details of 34 other offences he had committed across Suffolk and Norfolk, many of which it is unlikely would ever have been solved without his confession, Ipswich Crown Court heard on Friday.
Eke, of Southdown Road, Great Yarmouth, appeared in court after pleading guilty to an offence of burglary.
The court heard that Eke had 63 previous convictions for offences involving dishonesty, most of them burglary and shoplifting.
In mitigation, Jeremy Kendall said his client had helped police clear up a number of offences which would otherwise have been unlikely to have been solved. Eke was anxious to draw a line under his history of offending, added Mr Kendall.
Jailing Eke for 876 days, Recorder Martyn Levett said it appeared his history of offending was linked to his use of crack cocaine.
